PHILOSOPHY
The Ship of Theseus
Inspired by the ancient Greek philosophical paradox of the "Ship of Theseus," we created this cigar ashtray. Symbolized by an abstract ship-like form, it embodies silent reflections on the concepts of "replacement" and "persistence." This ultimate question regarding the self and its essence—one that has traversed millennia—often invites my own contemplation.
As the cigar burns, time drifts down slowly in the form of ash. A compass at the base quietly marks the "ship's" core; it serves not merely as a directional guide, but as a metaphor for the inner coordinates one seeks to rediscover during moments of solitary introspection. Each use becomes a miniature voyage—a renewal achieved amidst the shifting cycle of the ash.
Thus, the object transcends its functional role as a mere receptacle. It becomes a fulcrum for contemplation and a witness to transformation. Amidst the swirling haze of solitude, you might just shed an old "plank" of the past and replace it with a fresh realization.
